Woodlands Garden Community has an enviable location - situated immediately adjacent to the urban edge of Bristol, next to the regional employment hubs of Aztec West and Woodlands Business Park, as well as the large Willow Brook Centre that serves Bradley Stoke. It offers a development site where residents will have a real opportunity to access employment, key services and facilities on foot or by bike. The site also offers easy access to the Metrobus service and Bristol Parkway Train Station, which allows for sustainable transport options to be utilised to destinations further afield.
The WGC site consists of two 18 hole golf courses, a large car parking area, clubhouse and other buildings, drainage lakes and a large earth bund that runs along the site's boundary with the M4 and M5 motorways.
It generally consists of a wide range of landscape types, including heavily mown fairways, longer rough areas, scrubland and woodland. The landscape is not an historic one having been extensively re-engineered over the last few decades as part of works to create the golf courses that we see here today.
Nationally , golf participation had decreased significantly from nearly a million people playing golf a minimum of once a week in 2016, to less than 800,000 in 2021. Demand for shorter forms of the game, such as 9 hole and par 3 courses, has become stronger in recent years.
